History

image_test_1In 1947, LOCWELD was founded in the downtown core of Montreal, QC by Mr. Morris Fast. In the beginning, the company operated under the name “Locweld and Forged Products Limited” and specialized in the fabrication of steel frames for doors and windows. In 1954, Mr. Fast saw a significant opportunity in transmission tower fabrication and the shop took on its’ new direction.

In 1969, the company officially operated under the name Locweld inc. and relocated to a new 220,000 square foot facility on the South Shore of Montreal in Candiac.

Over the years, the transition to a new ownership took shape in 1978, with Mr. Maurice Cyr as the President of the company. As we continue to grow in every way, this legacy continues on today through the second generation with his son, Mr. Michael Cyr, as President of LOCWELD Group.

Traditionally, LOCWELD has been known for its’ incomparable experience in the design and fabrication of steel transmission towers. With the many facets of knowledge accumulated over its’ history, LOCWELD has successfully diversified into the design and fabrication of various other products:

  • In 1969: the installation of a complete hot dip galvanizing facility was incorporated into the new plant in Candiac;
  • In 1978: Design and fabrication of our first telecommunication tower;
  • In 1988: Design and fabrication of our first bridge structure, complete with orthotropic bridge decking;
  • In 1991: Design and fabrication of our first ROCK ANCHOR;

Today, the LOCWELD Group is currently represented through 2 distinct divisions:

LOCWELD Structures and LOCWELD Galvanization.

We are extremely proud of our achievement in being the industry leader in North America for transmission tower fabrication for over 66 years.

Sincere thanks to our loyal customers and suppliers alike in always having confidence in LOCWELD; a company that leads with Strength, Reliability and Expertise since 1947.
