Project Highlights
Locweld worked alongside its long-standing client, Hydro Quebec, to energize a record-high group of twelve tubular poles for the new Champlain Bridge project. Two of the twelve poles are 77 meters (252 feet high), requiring fabrication to occur in three sections, and resulting in the highest tubular poles ever installed in Quebec. In order to install these colossal poles, the crane needed to reach 85 meters (279 feet high).
Locweld oversaw the fabrication of the tubular poles and their connections, as well as detailing for the entire project.
“The defining characteristic of this project is that the tubular poles are enormous. They are “monster poles”. They are the highest ever constructed in Quebec, even surpassing the specified height of quality standards. This atypical project brought up challenges in regards to the handling and the precision given the heaviness and size of the poles.”
